Shanghai, China. 12 October 2026. The global fragrance industry turns its attention to Shanghai this week as Notes Shanghai 2026 Autumn Edition (‘2026AW’) prepares to unveil a showcase of scent and creativity at the West Bund International Convention and Exhibition Center. From 14 – 17 October 2026, the fair will bring together more than 200 brands from over 30 countries and regions, presenting the full spectrum of perfumery. Under the theme ‘Another Way’, this edition will invite the fragrance community to step beyond familiar trends, categories, and definitions, exploring new possibilities in fragrance creation and rethinking how scent can be experienced and understood. By extending perfumery’s creative boundaries back to its source, this edition will debut Notes Materials, a curated area dedicated to fine fragrance ingredients. Through special zones, thematic displays, awards, and forums, the show will shed light on the latest trends in fragrance creation, ingredients, and the market.

Spanning over 6,000 sqm, Notes Shanghai 2026AW is set to unite iconic international brands, independent perfumer labels, and emerging Chinese and Asian creators, showcasing diverse cultural perspectives and distinct olfactory expressions.

Presenting a rich scent palette, over 65 brands will join the fair for the first time, including Bortnikoff (Thailand), Escentric Molecules (UK), Gritti (Italy), J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin (Germany), Justiscents (China), and Pino Silvestre (Italy). This year’s lineup also features a strong presence from the Middle East, including Anfasic, Fragrance World, French Avenue, Hind Al Oud, Khaltat (all from UAE), and Kinamic (Oman).

With this stellar lineup and vibrant fringe events, this fair will welcome trade buyers, distributors, content creators, fragrance enthusiasts, and fragrance professionals from China and beyond. International fragrance media will also be onsite to cover the fair and its participating brands. Visitors can expect to sample fragrances onsite, discover new products, and engage directly with brand founders and product creators. The fair also features perfumers’ meet-and-greets, scent discovery activities, and other interactive experiences – offering an up-close view of the creative process, raw material selection, and expertise behind each work.

Debut Notes Materials zone to foster scent discovery

A highlight of the 2026AW edition is the inaugural Notes Materials zone, bringing together 20 global, premium raw material suppliers to showcase high-end natural extracts, specialty fractionated and distilled materials, innovative aroma molecules, biotech ingredients, and distinctive Chinese-origin raw materials.

Designed for perfumers, evaluators, procurement and supply chain professionals, as well as R&D teams from fragrance and beauty brands, the zone will host a series of activities to foster business exchange and creative dialogue. These include forums on technology, regulations, and creative applications, alongside ingredient smelling sessions, closed-door evaluations, and appointment-based exchanges – all aimed at broadening creative horizons in perfume development. Reflecting its professional focus, Notes Materials uses a separate registration and ticketing process. Access is granted only after eligibility is reviewed and approved.

Adding to the wealth of insights, the fair will also launch the Notes Materials Index, a professional reference detailing fragrance materials’ identity, origin, processing, and supplied form, as well as olfactive evaluations and other technical information. Designed to support a clearer understanding and evaluation of fragrance ingredients, the Index will continue to be expanded and refined with each edition, gradually building into a lasting industry reference.

The Nose: distinguished perfumers to spotlight latest creations

Returning to present a curated roster of distinguished perfumers from leading flavour and fragrance houses, The Nose will highlight signature works by inviting perfumers to unveil their newest creations in person, fostering deeper industry dialogue. This year’s edition will bring together perfumers from leading international and Chinese fragrance houses, offering visitors opportunities to discover their work and engage with the creators directly.

Eight curated showcases to deepen olfactory narratives
In collaboration with renowned flavour and fragrance houses and partners, this edition will feature eight thematic showcases that delve into fragrance creation, raw materials, and olfactory culture – each offering a distinct lens on perfumery.

Presented by Notes Shanghai, ‘Rewriting Rose’ will feature 77 fragrances across ten chapters, alongside rose flowers, hydrosols, essential oils, concretes, absolutes, and key aroma molecules. The curated display will explore how perfumers have repeatedly reconstructed and reinterpreted rose across different eras, cultures, and creative perspectives. Equally compelling is ‘The Perfumer of Light’ from the Masters series, which will highlight 40 representative works by Mr Alberto Morillas of dsm-firmenich. The display will spotlight his signature style, key creations, and enduring influence on contemporary perfumery, while Mr Morillas will be present at the fair to share insights and connect with attendees.

More showcases enriching the olfactory inspiration include ‘Check in by cottee – Traveler’s plan’ by cottee, ‘Flowers are watching us’ by dsm-firmenich, ‘Patchouli beyond’ by Givaudan, ‘An untrodden path of sight & scent’ by HERYNN, and ‘Scenting the orient’ by WINCOM.

At the heart of the attractions is a dedicated public testing zone for the Golden Osmanthus Awards onsite-evaluation, allowing visitors to experience and evaluate the entries from a diverse range of brands and creators. The awards ceremony will be held one to two months after the fair concludes, with winners announced at that time.

Fringe programme to unite global perfumers and industry leaders

Deepening the exchange between creativity and commerce, the fair will deliver a multifaceted experience through over 40 industry forums, panel discussions, professional sharing sessions, and brand events. Discussions will span fragrance creation, raw materials and technology, cross-border collaboration, brand growth, consumer trends, and industry dynamics. Several forums will also feature real-world case studies, exploring how perfumers and brands can move beyond the familiar and pursue new directions in olfactory expression and development.

Furthermore, the fourth edition of NEZ in China, the bilingual olfactory publication jointly produced by Notes Shanghai and French olfactory culture organisation NEZ, will also be launched during the show. The publication will feature Chinese and English content on perfume culture, brands, creators, and the global fragrance industry, bridging international perspectives with the development of perfumery in China.

Charting a new path: Notes Dubai to launch in January 2027

Building on the momentum of Notes Shanghai, Notes Dubai – the sister fair – will hold its inaugural edition from 21 – 23 January 2027 at the Dubai Mall Exhibition Centre. Drawing on Notes Shanghai’s expertise and reputation across Asia, the new fair will help exhibitors and brands tap into the potential of the Middle East. With a focus on niche and artistic perfumery, the first edition will welcome around 150 – 180 brands, attracting distributors, retailers, collectors and consumers from the region and beyond. In addition to the product showcase, a substantive conference programme will further enrich industry exchange and insights.

The new fair is jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt Middle East GmbH and Notes Shanghai. Through this extended global network, Messe Frankfurt and Notes Shanghai Exhibition Co Ltd will continue to drive industry growth, unlocking new resources, generating insights, and promoting cultural exchange between fragrance communities worldwide.
